Max Casabella – From Barcelona to Berkeley: Water Polo, College & Three NCAA Titles
What happens when a young Spanish water polo player leaves Barcelona to continue his career in the United States?
In Part 1 of my conversation with Max Casabella, we talk about his journey from Barcelona to UC Berkeley and his experience combining high-level water polo with college life in the United States.
Max shares what motivated him to take this step, how he adapted to a new country and a different water polo environment, and what surprised him most about the American college system.
His time at Berkeley became an extraordinary chapter of his career – including three NCAA championships and the experience of competing at one of the highest levels of US college water polo.
From European Water Polo to the NCAA
We also talk about the differences between European and American water polo, the intensity of the college system and what players can learn by stepping outside their familiar environment.
For Max, moving to the United States was about much more than water polo. It meant adapting to a different culture, balancing sport and education and developing both as a player and as a person.
His story offers an interesting perspective on two very different water polo worlds – and what they can learn from each other.
